HIV & Insurance

Health insurance helps you in two major ways:

1) The insurance covers care for all your health needs. In addition to your HIV care and medications, you’ll be able to get other health services, such as flu shots and cancer screenings. You can also get care for other health problems you may already have, like heart disease or diabetes.

2) Health insurance protects your finances. If something unexpected happens, like a car accident, you won’t go broke paying hospital bills. Also, you can still get services from the Ryan White Program, like housing assistance and support groups that are not covered by your health insurance. Ryan White

What is Ryan White?

The Ryan White Program is a federally funded program that began in 1991 to address the unmet healthcare and treatment needs of low income, uninsured or underinsured persons living with HIV/AIDS. The program provides for states and cities to deliver care to more than half a million people every year.

How can Ryan White help me?

Depending on your income the program may assist with:

  1. HIV related meds
  2. HIV related labs and doctor visits
  3. Case Management
  4. Limited Dental Care
  5. Supportive Services that assist with food, housing and transportation.

Contact the Utah AIDS Foundation (801-487-2323) and ask to make an appointment with a case manager. Please be ready to provide proof of diagnosis, income, and current or prior insurance coverage.
